چکیده

Coal, like most materials found in nature, contain trace quantities of the naturally occurring primordial radionuclides. Therefore, the combustion of coals results in the release into the environment of some natural radioactive elements and in a redistribution of these radioactive elements in the surface soil particularly in the vicinity of coal-fired power plants, where it can modify ambient radiation fields and population exposures [1].

On the Radioactivity of Fly Ashes from Coal Power Plants

The radioactivity of Greek lignites and their ashes was studied. It was found that the radionuclides in them belong to the uranium series. Fly ashes are relatively rich in radioactivity. Concentrations up to 7 , 1 0 _ 5 g / g and 12 pCi/g were measured for 238U and 226Ra, respectively. The associated hazards from radioactivity escaping from stacks of thermopower plants or when fly ashes are use...

Trace Element Chemistry of Fly Ashes from Co-combusted Petroleum Coke and Coal

Because of economics, petroleum coke sometimes replaces or supplements coal as a fuel in power plant combustors. Fly ashes were recovered from the combustion of petroleum coke with moderateto high-sulfur Illinois Basin bituminous coal in a western Kentucky power plant. The fly ashes primarily consist of glass, quartz, mullite and spinels. When compared with ordinary fly ashes from Illinois Basi...

Relation between Coal and Fly Ash Mineralogy, Based on Quantitative X-Ray Diffraction Methods

The proportion of amorphous or glassy material in a series of fly ashes has been evaluated by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) using several different sample preparation and processing methods in conjunction with the Rietveld-based Siroquant quantitative X-ray diffraction analysis software package. The results of the different methods used were found to give consistent results and were also in ag...

Arsenic leachability and speciation in fly ashes from coal fired power plants

To determine dominant factors on arsenic leaching from the coal fly ash, arsenic leaching test under a constant pH was performed. Twelve fly ash samples were collected from two coal fired power plants (600 MWe) having different boiler types. Arsenic in the raw coal was almost all associated with the fly ash in both power plants; however arsenic leaching fraction was strongly differed in boiler ...

On Unburned Carbon in Coal Ash from Various Combustion Units

Work is focused to the study of unburned carbon in ash from coal (and wastes) combustion in 8 combustion tests at 3 fluidised-bed power station, at co-combustion of coal and wastes (also at fluidized bed) and at bench-scale unit simulating coal combustion in small domestic furnaces. The attention is paid to unburned carbon contents in bottom ashes and fly ashes at these 8 combustion tests and t...
